Wear gloves

If patient cannot remove own dentures, grasp upper plate at the front teeth and move up and down gently to release suction

Lift the lower plate up one side at a time

Use extreme care not to damage dentures while cleaning

Use tepid, not hot, water to clean

Avoid soaking for long periods of time

Inspect for sharp edges

Do oral cavity assessment

Replace moistened dentures in patient’s mouth

Use appropriately labeled container tor storage when dentures are to remain out of patient’s mouth
